| D&E PREIDENT BUCK SMITH, ALUMNI EXCELLENCE RECIPIENT DEBBIE FRAGALE, & FLINT ENGLEMAN |
FIRST ANNUAL SENATOR'S SOCIAL, A BIG HIT WITH ALUMS! We had 43 D&E alumni and friends gather at Maggiano's restaurant.
What a wonderful representation of the many alums from classes ranging from 1950-2009! All were engaged with the festivities
and had a grand time. Our First Annual Senator's Social event on May 23rd
was a great occasion for alumni and friends to join together, enjoy some fun and fellowship, and hear a great message from
Dr. G.T. "Buck" Smith. Buck was our keynote speaker and he delivered a wonderful address to the gathering.
He highlighted the many successes of the College. Including the ongoing effort to generate funds for the Doris
Buffett Scholar Challenge. He also mentioned some projects that will be going forward in the short term.
Including: The new greenway, landscaped entrance off of Davis Street leading to the Gatehouse, and the soon to
be groundbreaking of the new athletic fields on back campus. Buck was presented an engraved Commonwealth Cup
for his presentation by Flint Engleman on behalf of the VAC. Also, we were honored
to present the first Virginia Alumni Chapter of D&E Alumni Excellence Award!
The first recipient was Debbie Payne-Fragale. Debbie has been a super advocate and energetic officer from the very start
of the VAC. She worked very hard to make our event successful and well planned. Debbie reached out to alumni to
encourage them to attend and join the VAC. Congratulations, Debbie!
VAC MOVING FORWARD WITH THE
SPIRIT OF D&E!
Here's a message from VAC
President, Flint Engleman... Alumni and friends of D&E!
The success of our May Senator's Social event and our ever growing membership, has given us great energy! Plans are already underway to work on the next couple of events. One more
for this year, and next year's 2nd annual Senator's Social! We are
actively working to set-up our next social event for the VAC. We're looking at mid-late September of 2010. We
want this event to be more social in nature and more casual. We'll need to take care of a few business items, like the
annual election, but we'll keep it more social. The details for the next event will be announced mid-summer, so be on
the lookout and ready your calendars! Again,
thanks to all of the alums, friends and staff of D&E for making the Richmond event such a tremendous success!
The Virginia Chapter is Official!
The Virginia Alumni Chapter has officially formed! A meeting of D&E alumni from Virginia unanimously
adopted formal bylaws and elected officers on October 18, 2009. Our meeting included an overview about forming an alumni
Chapter, a geography of alumni across the Commonwealth, and concluded with the first 12 Charter members applying for membership. Memberships are available to any D&E alumnus! D&E
alumni residing in Virginia can become Charter members. Alumni from other states may join the Chapter as Supporting
members. All members receive regular communications and exclusive invitations to Virginia Chapter events. Membership
is as simple as completing a member application and providing a one-time $20 member fee. Contact the
Chapter President, Flint Engleman, at (434)981-3014 or e-mail at engleman@hotmail.com for more info.
Alumni Reunite After Many Years through Facebook
About a year ago, Michele DeBerry (D&E Alumnus and Hall of Fame member) founded
a group for D&E alumni to reconnect via the internet. Using the free dynamic, networking capabilities of Facebook,
over 450 D&E alumni have reconnected. Some alumni have found long lost friends that they have not seen since graduation.
With time spans as long as 40 years! Many other special groups have been created through Facebook for D&E greeks,
athletes and other interests. You are cordially invited to join in the reunions being held almost daily.
Just click the Facebook icon located above, and register for this FREE service that is doing wonders
for connecting fellow alumni!
